Two boutique islands. Two unforgettable stays. Discover my latest Caribbean escape to Peter Island in the BVI and Hermitage Bay in Antigua. Turquoise waters, serene luxury, and personal touches throughout.
Just back from a truly unforgettable Caribbean escape that took me to two very special boutique properties. This was a five night twin-centre business trip, combining Peter Island in the British Virgin Islands and Hermitage Bay in Antigua. Both offer something entirely different, yet equally exceptional. For those seeking privacy, boutique luxury , authentic Caribbean charm and stunning turquoise waters, this combination could be the one.
We began with a private charter flight from Antigua to the British Virgin Islands. It was such a smooth and stylish way to start the journey. The flight to Tortola took about an hour, followed by a 25-minute transfer and a 15-minute boat ride to reach Peter Island. Every part of the trip felt effortless and exciting from the outset.
Peter Island is a private island hideaway with just fifty-two rooms, giving it a truly intimate, boutique feel. For such a small island, the variety of beaches is impressive. You could visit a different one each day if you wanted to. One of our highlights was enjoying a private picnic on White Bay Beach, where we relaxed under the cabanas and completely switched off. For a more romantic experience, couples can book Honeymoon Beach for exclusive use.
Deadman’s Beach, the island’s main stretch, is a mile-long crescent of soft white sand. It is ideal for water sports, swimming, or simply lounging. Another must-do experience is the Sunset Loop. We were taken up by car to a scenic point, where a private set-up with bubbles and canapés awaited us. Sitting there, watching the sun dip into the sea, was an unforgettable experience.
For a more casual meal, I loved the Drunken Pelican over at the marina. It’s a great lunch spot with a relaxed vibe and a welcome change of scenery. Nearby, there are some lovely facilities, including pickleball and basketball courts, as well as a fantastic boutique to browse. For the more adventurous, watersports and snorkelling are also available.
If you enjoy staying active while away, there are numerous hiking trails and walking paths throughout the island. I like to start my mornings with a workout, so I jogged to the other side of the island where the gym and spa are located. That said, if the heat gets too much, you can always call for a buggy to take you around.
I stayed in a beachfront junior suite, which offered ample space and a stunning location. I also had the chance to view the beachfront rooms, which are the entry-level category. For couples, I would highly recommend them. They are light, airy, and very spacious, with beautiful views and private balconies. You can even upgrade to a hot tub, which is perfect for an afternoon cocktail while soaking in the view. These rooms are also conveniently located close to the Drake restaurant and the main pool.
Speaking of food, be sure to try the signature breakfast dish, the Jean Kelly French Toast, served with tamarind syrup. It became a firm favourite among our group.
On our final evening, we enjoyed a fine dining experience at Falcon’s Nest, a private six-bedroom villa perched high above the island. With panoramic views over White Bay Beach and Norman Island, flowing champagne, and impeccable cuisine, it was a perfect finale.
Peter Island is also a great stop-off for those on a private yacht itinerary around the British Virgin Islands, with exclusive mooring options available.
Overall, this island is ideal for honeymooners and couples seeking a luxurious, off-the-beaten-track escape with an emphasis on privacy, nature, and wellness.
From there, we travelled to Antigua to stay at Hermitage Bay. Hermitage Bay is a five-star, all-inclusive boutique resort with just thirty suites, nestled between lush hillsides and a pristine white sand beach with dazzling turquoise waters. Suites are thoughtfully spread across the beachfront, gardens, and hillside, each offering its own unique perspective and sense of privacy. The beach here was truly spectacular.
I stayed in a Hillside Pool Villa Suite. It was peaceful, private, and surrounded by nature. I had my own pool and deck where I could cool off and enjoy the view. Inside, the suite featured a roll-top bath, outdoor shower, and a fully stocked minibar. Outside on the spacious deck were sun loungers, a day bed, and chairs. I loved sipping my morning coffee here after a quick dip in the pool, listening to the sound of the ocean.
The newly opened beach club has a relaxed boho-chic vibe with live music that instantly gets you into the rhythm of island life. This quickly became one of my favourite spots. Sushi and Sunset Hour at the beachside Tree Bar was another highlight. I recommend ordering the signature Rachel’s Delight cocktail and enjoying the view. If you love sushi, be sure to book early. It is included in the premium all-inclusive plan, so there is no additional cost.
For those seeking wellness and balance, daily yoga and Pilates sessions are included. There is also a small but well-equipped gym for guests who enjoy staying active.
If you are looking to explore a little more, you can book a boat trip to nearby Barbuda and enjoy lunch at Nobu. I didn’t get the chance to try it this time, but it is firmly on my list for next time.
Non-motorised water sports are available, and it is the perfect beach for paddleboarding, Hobie Cat sailing, or grabbing a snorkel and heading out to explore.
Hermitage Bay doesn’t feel like a typical all-inclusive resort. The experience is elegant and discreet. Gourmet à la carte dining, garden-to-plate ingredients, top-shelf spirits, and personal service are all part of the experience here.
It is a perfect recommendation for clients seeking a peaceful, luxurious escape in a natural setting. It will suit those who value privacy, wellness, organic living, and thoughtful, personalised service.
Two islands. Two unique properties. One seamless and inspiring journey. Both Peter Island and Hermitage Bay offer boutique-style hospitality with a deep connection to nature, wellbeing, and authentic Caribbean charm.
I’ve personally stayed, explored, and experienced both, and I would love to help plan your perfect island-hopping escape.
